I have a Cingular plan and my phone was submerged and no longer works. I can not afford $ 200 dollars for a new one. I am not eligible for an upgrade. The SIM card is fine. I buy one of the phones that come with prepaid wireless service and $ 50 dollars and then use my plan once the minutes are consumed? Is the SIM card work in it? I do not care what kind of phone that is. I had the cheapest of all forms, the Nokia 6010. But even those are close to $ 200 in the Cingular store if not the signing of a new service contract. Yes, you should be able to do that. Call Cingular and ask them to tell what you do. You have trouble changing SIM cards between phones, but Im not sure. Either way Cingular will tell you what to do.

One such technology is GSM, how many of us know the correct meaning of this acronym? What are its uses?

There are several components of the system and basic services to the GSM system can provide to its users. For starters, the main types of GSM devices both include single mode and dual mode mobile phones, embedded radio modules and even radio external modems.

The GSM system has made a significant separation of the circuits between these two important elements - the circuit breaker refers to the main voice and packet switching refers services of primary data.

vtech cordless phone the plug in works with dial tone but expandable head set does not?

we purchased a vtech phone with 1 extra handset and recently switched from cable phone to regular land line the phone that is plugged into the wall works fine but the expandable headset does not. it reads call did not connect. is it possible that this phone can not be used?

I will assume that you sync'd the phones, you put the extension in the base unit to allow the extension to sync to the base.

some newer phones are VOIP only. they are not compatable with the traditional phone network. MOST phones are plain old telephones (POTS) and can be used on both networks, but there is a rare occasion especially if the phone was supplied by the cable company.

Can two people talk on line 1&2 with a cordless expandable phone at the same time such as Panasonic KX-TG6700B

I'm thinking of purchasing a cordless 2 line expandable phone but want to be able to talk on one line and someone else be able to answer or make calls and talk on the other line at the same time using the extra handset. Can this be possible, the phone I'm looking at is the Panasonic KX-TG6700B cordless two-line with one handset. If not, are there any other cordless expandable phones with this cabability? Thanks!

Cordless or not?

I've been reading up on cordless phones and would appreciate your input. I was so frustrated with my old cordless because I was constantly having interference with conversations cutting in and out......I'd walk outside and the reception would be bad etc. I finally just said forget it and now have 1 corded phone in the house....it's great because there's no interference, but I can't walk around! Someone had once told me to get a dss phone? I'm clueless! I recently saw a Panasonic phone at Costco and said it was a dect 6.0...is this something that will do the trick? What is the difference between the dect 6.0 and the dss phone someone had mentioned to me? Any suggestions or recommendations would be appreciated! Thank you!!

I've been trough a few BT/Panasonic/Siemens/Philips cordless phone and I understand how you feel. The first few were terrible because they had always buzzing noise the further away you go. Afterwards Digital Cordless phones came out and they were great because they either work or stop suddenly after 100 meters. Thats a very long distance and even tried taking my handset with me to the shop...still worked. Now the bad news is I had enough of this and I'm going back to corded phones.

I can't express how terrible is when you start to talk and your battery dies in the middle of the conversation, especially if it's important call from the bank, insurance, office that you can't just redial. The other problem is I talk a lot and my average calls are about 30min to 1 hour. Also home cordless phones are not like GSM's where you can just plug them and start charging while still talking. If you try that it will hand up immediately and you can't use the phone unless you take it off the base unit. If you can buy a good corded phone and place it in the dinner room next to a table where you can sit rather than standing up in the hallway, then you will be laughing!

A few days ago, I was at the mall in a jewelry store. While waiting to be served, I was observing how the customers were being taken care of. Then the phone rang, and rang, and rang until at approximately the 10th ring the person that was closest to the telephone, without excusing herself, abruptly picked up the receiver and answered in a near annoyed tone "XYZ Jewelry" and waited for the caller to speak.

 

I could almost feel her tension and annoyance. I am sure you can well imagine how she must have sounded to the caller. How do you think the customer she was serving felt?

 

Once she started answering the caller's questions, she became calmer and more pleasant.

 

But the real irony of the situation was that when she finished answering the call she returned her attention to the customer she was serving, without apologizing for the interruption. After completing the transaction she gave the customer her business card and said, "if you ever have any problems with this product or need any information, please do not hesitate to call me".

 

There are many conclusions that can be drawn from this scene. Here are a few. The salesperson was impolite to both customers. Perhaps the owner or manager should have someone specifically assigned and trained to answer the phone. Most probably the salesperson has no real clue as to how her behavior affects XYZ Jewelry's image and business.

 

However, the fact remains that this person is also affecting her own image. Both customers now have an image that is not necessarily positive in the back of their mind.

 

Was their encounter with this sales lady in this store a pleasant one? If they ever meet her again what will they remember most about her and XYZ Jewelry?

 

 

Tip #1

Always smile before you answer the phone...

When you smile, you are actually sending a message to your brain that you are in a pleasant, congenial and happy mood. Even if it is not entirely true, your subconscious will actually accept this as a fact. This will affect your tone of voice as well as your manner of answering. Have you ever tried smiling and frowning at the same time? Ever tried talking to someone in a very abrupt or upset manner while you are smiling? Your entire corporate image is reflected on that magical moment which lasts but a few seconds. Your smile will leave a pleasant lingering image with your caller.

 

Tip #2

Being interrupted or annoyed does not give anyone the right to be unpleasant or discourteous. Hello, Excuse me, Please and Thank You are COOL words to use. They actually mean something to the person you are talking to.

Tip #3

How did you feel the last time someone spoke to you in a not-so-friendly tone or manner? Most probably unpleasant. Therefore why should it be any different for others?

When I call somewhere, I have no way of knowing if I am interrupting or disturbing. Since I am constantly being invited to call whose prime responsibility is it to be pleasant?

 

Tip #4

If you are a business owner or manager, please make sure your telephones are not taken for granted. It is not because we all have one on our desks, on our belt, in our pockets, in our purse or at our workstations that we know how to use them effectively. With a smile... (to the customer being served)

" Please excuse me! Being nearest the telephone it is my responsibility to answer!"

 

"XYZ Jewelry, my name is Louise, how can I help you today?" (With cheerfulness in her tone)

 

Then she handles the call in a most appropriate and efficient manner ending the call with

"Thank you for calling XYZ Jewelry!"

 

Now returning her attention to the customer she was serving ...

" Excuse me for the interruption and thank you for your patience. When people call they have no way of knowing if we are busy or not"

 

Simple, pleasant and efficient!

How should I answer my office phone on internal calls?

When someone from the office calls me (sometimes I know them, sometimes I don't) how should I answer my phone?
To One Love: Obviously I know how to conduct myself otherwise I wouldn't be working in an office to begin with. If you must know I am in fact a college grad from one of the top 5 business schools in the U.S. My question was more targeted towards what criteria to use when introducing myself. Should I include my last name, my department the first time I speak with someone or should I always provide this info. Does it matter if its a superior or a peer? These are the types of answers I am looking for. And before you go criticizing my ability to speak, I think you should learn to type.

Most people either say:

Good morning / Good afternoon, Chas speaking

or

This is Chas

or

Chas speaking

Generally it depends on the office environment. You should try observing how your co-workers answer their phones and mimic them.
